Decorating with moss for Spring

I’ve talked a lot recently about bringing the outdoors in when doing Spring decorating. Obviously fresh flowers are the best choice, but I also love decorating with moss. My favorite is reindeer moss. If you haven’t experienced reindeer moss, you must! It has the most incredible texture, it’s soft and spongey. So satisfying. It is easy to work with and comes in a few different colors. I learned the hard way though, and it does sometimes stain. I had some lying on my white quartz kitchen counter and went to wipe it up with a wet paper towel and the green dye was all over my counter. Lucky it came off with a little baking soda paste, so all is good! Fair warning though.

Below are some photos of some different things you can do with the moss if you’re into a little DIY project. Back in the fall, I made a wreath out of the moss for my front door. It’s held up well so far and was super easy to make. I purchased a plain wreath, the kind made from sticks not Styrofoam and a large bag of reindeer moss and went to town hot gluing that stuff on. It took me like maybe one hour!

You could also do a rendition of this moss mirror yourself very easily or you could even use an old frame and make moss wall art. The moss balls/ornaments are super easy. You can either use a spray adhesive or hot glue. So many options!

Of course there are lots of different kinds of moss, not just reindeer moss. Using a variety of different types and colors of moss in your projects can give you an extra pop of color and interest. I like these packs that have a variety of mosses.

I just styled a ruffle edge bowl as a centerpiece on my kitchen island with moss balls, ceramic blue and white balls and tossed some extra reindeer moss in there for some variance in the greenery. Perfect for Spring!

Here’s the wreath I did for fall. I used a bag of mixed moss from my local craft store and found some flies to glue on there. Keep in mind, this was for fall, so I was trying to make it slightly creepy for Halloween too! For Spring, I might switch out the flies for dried applique flowers or faux eggs.
