Styling a Bookshelf

Here’s what you need when styling a bookshelf!

Checklist:

• Books-I purchase used books on Amazon and also thrift stores. I also find great books at Home Goods. Find a great selection here as well!

• Baskets, Boxes, Bowls-I don’t spend a lot on baskets. I usually purchase them at Target or Home Goods.

• Candle-I like to put at least one. It can be a votive, pillar or tall taper shape. If you need to add height to your shelf, this is a great way to do it!

• Florals and/or greenery-can be fresh or faux!

• Planters/Vases

• Decorative Objects

  Optional:

• Bookends

• Art/Frames

Decorative trays and boxes can add that flat rectangular shape you’ll need especially if you don’t have a lot of books. You can place a small box on top of a few books stacked horizontally or if it’s a larger box, it can stand alone. Use a bowl for a more organic shape. A larger bowl can sit directly on the shelf. You could place decorative beads or some greenery inside. A smaller bowl could be placed on top of horizontally stacked books.

Taller vases can be used to add height within your shelf. They can stand alone or hold faux or live greenery or florals. Always consider adding a planter or vase to include some greenery to your shelf.

Place a few decorative objects on top of books or on the shelf alone to add interest. Make it even more unique by using a few found objects or antiques.

Use tall taper candles if you need to add height and smaller votives or hurricanes with pillars for a shorter detail.

Objects found in nature like branches, seashells, coral and driftwood add an organic quality to your space. If you are resourceful, you can just pick these up in nature on your own!
