What is eDesign?

Before I share with you how I did last week’s project, I’m going to give a business update. As I evolve my interior design business, I am constantly learning new ways to reach people and build relationships through design.

While my main objective remains to help those clients I can in person, I’ve also found that I really enjoy being able to help clients elsewhere too.

I live in a small town and most of my clients are out of town requiring me to travel a good deal (in Northern Colorado) which I don’t particularly enjoy. Most of these projects are also long term large renovations which does allow for some down time while waiting for materials, contractors and other things out of my control. This down time is how I am able to keep up with my blog and website. During this downtime, I am also working from my home office which allows me to work very efficiently on my eDesign projects.

What do I like most about eDesign? Ok, well the obvious…I can work in my sweats and pajamas. Ha! Joking aside, the main reason is really that my style of design appeals to folks across the US and beyond. Just because I live in Colorado does NOT mean that I want to design mountain homes. While I welcome the occasional mountain house, my passion lies more in southern traditional and coastal style design. Through eDesign, I can achieve this! I’m talking to you beach house owners!!!!

I spent several years living on the coast of Georgia and spend time at the beach every chance I get. I know coastal as well as traditional southern style. My style is heavily influenced by this region and traditions rooted there.

Have you heard of eDesign?

If the answer is yes, hopefully this might answer some questions for you. If the answer is no, then you’re going to learn something today!

What is eDesign?

eDesign is interior design that is completely virtual. You have a real designer (me!) and I design everything online providing design boards, shopping links, instructions and everything you need to complete the design all on your own. I provide support regarding item placement as needed so no worries if you have questions when products start arriving to your home.

What is the benefit of eDesign?

  1. It is much more affordable than traditional in person design services. Why? Well there is no traveling and no project management. There are no contractors to work with and so the time the designer spends on your project is much less.

  2. You can purchase items at your own pace providing the ability to spend a little at a time instead of all at once. (Keep in mind, designers are not responsible for providing alternative items if something sells out.)

  3. The turnaround is pretty fast with eDesign. Depending on revisions, usually you have a completed design with 2 weeks.

  4. If you’re comfortable with a little DIY, you can save money here as well. You can paint, install wallcoverings, install window treatments and hang art yourself instead of having a designer have this done for you.

  5. You don’t have to set up any appointments or wait long periods for the designer availability. Often times a designer uses eDesign to fill in gaps where they are waiting on construction or production on a traditional in person project.

  6. Lastly, you can live anywhere and get design help! You do not have to live near a specific designer (me in Colorado!).

Above is an example of what an eDesign board might look like. This is a living room design concept board for a client that loves a coastal aesthetic. I would first include two different concept boards based on answers to an initial questionnaire and then after the client chooses one of the two and gives feedback on likes/dislikes, I then elevate that design to include more details, window treatments, direct shopping links and a floor plan with measurements so arranging furniture is easy when items are delivered.

Above is another example of an initial design concept. None of these items is custom made meaning I can link you directly to the source and you can purchase it yourself! You can see that included here is also a shopping board. When you create an account with me for your design, everything is streamlined through a software where we can leave notes, attach files and present design boards. This is also where all your shopping links will go. Not only is the link there, but you can also “approve/decline” products and leave comments and I can leave details about the product including pricing, lead times and specific sizes and color choices making your ordering process flawless.
